Sodium Bisulphate

What is Sodium Bisulphate (Sodium Hydrogen Sulfate)?

Sodium Bisulphate is a dry, granular acid salt used primarily for pH reduction in water treatment and industrial processes. As a solid acid, it provides a safer and more manageable alternative to liquid acids like sulfuric acid.

When dissolved in water, Sodium Bisulphate forms a mildly acidic solution, effective for neutralizing alkaline substances and adjusting water chemistry without the release of harmful fumes.

Its predictable action and non-volatile nature make it ideal for use in pool maintenance, cleaning formulations, metal treatment, and food processing.

Though generally safer to handle than strong liquid acids, Sodium Bisulphate can still be corrosive in concentrated form and may cause irritation to skin, eyes, or respiratory tract. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is recommended during handling.

USES AND APPLICATIONS

INDUSTRIES

Sodium Bisulphate is widely used in:

  • Swimming pools and spa water pH reduction

  • Industrial water treatment and pH balancing

  • Metal cleaning and surface preparation

  • Textile dyeing and finishing

  • Food and beverage processing (as a food-grade additive, E514)

  • Household and institutional cleaning products

KEY ADVANTAGES

  • Solid form – safer and easier to store and handle than liquid acids

  • No harmful fumes or volatile emissions

  • Accurate pH control with consistent results

  • Suitable for both industrial and consumer-grade applications
